Canada 2022 Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundations Doctoral Fellowships are awarded to exceptional PhD candidates enrolled in, or seeking enrollment in, social sciences or humanities programs at Canadian institutions.

Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundations scholarships call for applications from international students wishing to obtain a PhD from a Canadian university in the academic year 2022-2023.

Trudeau Foundation offers doctoral scholarships for Canadian citizens and foreign nationals who are studying social sciences and humanities at Canadian universities in the year 2021/2022. Through The Trudeau Foundations Leadership Development Program, these scholars will learn from a new cohort of Fellows and mentors who are leading lights within their institutions and communities, with the academic theme starting in 2021, Language, Culture & Identity

The Scholars are paired with an esteemed Trudeau Mentor, selected by the Foundation among Canadas most eminent practitioners across sectors of public life. The 12 candidates will begin a three-year journey, in which they will receive coaching from eminent Fellows and Mentors.

Candidates committed to the three-year leadership programme, who meet the eligibility criteria, may apply directly to the Trudeau Foundation via its Application Portal. This years selection process will be a little different, because, in the spirit of inclusive excellence, we are pleased to announce that we are welcoming all candidates to apply directly to The Foundation, via the new application platform

In past years, universities selected a shortlist of three to four candidates, a step which has been removed from the process, to enable much greater numbers of candidates to be considered for a Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation scholarship. Nearly 500 exceptional doctoral students from across Canada and around the world have applied for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundations one-of-a-kind program, which offers generous scholarships as well as a remarkable path toward transformative leadership.

Scholarship value/inclusions/duration:

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation offers exceptional opportunities to scholars, from language training grants to multidisciplinary, ad hoc exchanges with leading leaders and scholars. The annual value of a Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation scholarship is up to $60,000 per scholar (including $20,000 in annual travel expenses) over three years.

The PETF scholarship offers a three-year leadership program designed to prepare committed leaders, as well as offers up to a $40,000 stipend annually, plus an additional allowance of up to $20,000 per year for travel related to the research, as well as attendance at the Foundations Leadership Training Institutes and events.

This three-year leadership program is designed to train Engaged Leaders, providing exceptional PhD candidates the skills to turn their ideas into action, for the benefit of their communities, Canada, and the world.

PETF facilitates development of Engaged Leader skills through a three-year program focused on experiential learning and curriculum taught by Fellows and mentors. In addition to a unique research and collaboration opportunity, the Co-Chair will develop and conduct content as part of the PETFs Leadership Program, including its Engaged Leadership Institutes.

Fulbright Canada and the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation (PETF) established a joint special research chair in contemporary public policy to support the opportunity for a multifaceted contribution to the PETFs mission, serving as guides and mentors for a new generation of courageous, innovative scholars.

At the end of its consideration, The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundations Board will choose 12 candidates, on the basis of their excellence in scholarship, but also on the basis of their openness to plural perspectives, commitment to the democratization of their scholarship and knowledge, and their willingness to exert influential, engaging leadership.

Further details about program information, application requirements, and access to the Foundations application portal are available at the The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundations Becoming Scholar webpage, as well as FAQs. While the pandemic will necessitate that this process is far more virtual, The Trudeau Foundation will seek out bright emerging scholars in Canada and beyond Canada to be awarded this distinguished scholarship, just as it has done in the past.
