PhD Scholarships: The Italian government scholarships for international students, among the best Italian scholarships for international students, are a few programs introduced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in order to support students from different parts of the world, particularly those who are struggling financially. 

The Italian government scholarships for international students

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) is most known for offering subsidies, and Italy has made effective use of this by offering scholarships, available from the 2022-23 academic year. 

The Politecnico di Torino offers Italian scholarships for foreign students who are interested in available programs. International students can definitely receive full-ride scholarships to Italy when they apply to scholarships offered by the Italian government.

To study at the Italian government free of cost, you need to apply at Italian universities offering scholarships. Italian Government offers scholarships for foreign students studying undergraduate, masters, and PhD degrees. 

Fully funded scholarships are available to international students pursuing graduate studies (masters degrees programs) at Italian government institutions. MAECI offers scholarships for foreign students every year; There are 30 private universities and 72 public universities in Italy, with 339 courses taught in English.

The Italian government scholarships are available for students eligible to study in Italian higher education institutions who are not currently on a University Scholarship. 

The grants are offered for studies, training, and/or research programs in Italian higher education institutions, either publicly or legally recognized. Grants are offered to undertake study courses and research/training programs in public or legally recognized Italian institutions. Italian fellowships are offered in four distinct tracks; Master degrees, Advanced Studies courses in Art, Music, and Dance (AFAM), PhD programs, and Research with Academic Supervision.

International students may apply to Bachelors degree programs and Master degrees funded by Italian government scholarships. 

Applications should only be submitted by Foreign students who do not live in Italy, and Italian Citizens Living Abroad (IRE)* who possess an eligible academic degree required for enrollment at Italian universities/institutions.

Grants cannot be awarded for attendance at courses at foreign institutions located either in Italy or abroad, or at private institutes, research centers, or laboratories that are not recognized by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR). Grants are not compatible with any other grants offered by the Italian State or by any other Italian state institutions, including scholarships offered by educational regional authorities and agencies.

The grant is compatible with other European programs, such as Erasmus and Erasmus+, as well as with other scholarships offered by international institutions, but the grant will not cover a period of study outside of Italy. Students wishing to study in Europe, but who cannot afford to do so, are strongly advised to apply to the Italy Scholarship 2022. 

To be considered for the Veneto Region scholarship, qualified applicants first need to have been accepted into one of the programs offered at the University of Padua, they must also have been able to get a visa for Italy, an ideal requirement for international applicants. 

The University of Bologna, Italy offers bachelors scholarships & masters scholarships to deserving international students wishing to enroll for First-, Second-, or Single-cycle degree programs at the University of Bologna in order to study in Italy tuition-free.

The winner of a MAECI scholarship, depending on the date the grant starts and the number of months indicated on Dichiarazione di assegnazione di borsa di studio (Awarding Letter), will be paid an amount of EUR900 per month, paid on a quarter-time basis into a personal current account opened in his/her name with an Italian bank. 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) is offering grants to foreign citizens not resident in Italy and Italian citizens living abroad (IRE)* for the academic year 2022-2023, in order to promote international cultural, scientific and technological cooperation, to promote Italian language and culture, and to support Italys economic system in the world (in accordance with Law 288/55 and its subsequent amendments and additions).
